Black people in New Hampshire and nearby areas reach out to us during some of the hardest moments of their lives.

Food insecurity. Rent. Transportation. Funeral expenses. Escaping violence. Childcare. Mental health struggles. Grief. Emergencies. Survival.

Right now, BWINH does not have a fully funded mutual aid program or a large emergency assistance budget. When requests come in, we make real-time decisions about what we can shift, delay, reduce, or deprioritize in order to help where we can.

Sometimes that means pulling from programming funds.

Sometimes that means collective members personally contributing what they can.

Sometimes it means we simply do not have the capacity to help financially, even when the need is real.

This fund is our attempt to build something more stable.

Why This Matters

We do connect people with existing resources when possible. But we also know that many Black people have deep and valid reasons not to trust the systems and institutions that claim to help.

Housing systems. Healthcare systems. Nonprofits. Policing. Child welfare. Public assistance. Crisis response.

Many of us carry racial trauma from being dismissed, harmed, surveilled, judged, or failed by the very systems we were told to turn to.

Community care cannot replace structural change, but it can help people survive while we continue building something better.

What This Fund Supports

Donations to this fund may help support Black community members with needs such as:

Groceries and household essentials

Transportation support

Emergency rent or housing-related needs

Funeral or grief-related support

Childcare support

Safety-related needs

Emergency supplies

Other urgent needs reviewed on a case-by-case basis

Support is not guaranteed and requests will be reviewed based on available funds, urgency, alignment with our capacity, and community care priorities.

This is not a large, formal assistance program. We are a grassroots Black-led collective building community care infrastructure in real time.

Funds raised here will help reduce the pressure of choosing between sustaining ongoing community programming and responding to urgent community needs.
