The 18b Arts District Story

Over 25 years ago, a group of neighbors, artists, and City Hall leaders came together with a shared vision: to shine a spotlight on local art made right here in Las Vegas. From that vision, a small community was born—one that would grow to become the vibrant, world-renowned cultural hub now known as 18b The Las Vegas Arts District.

Back then, it started with just 18 blocks. A grassroots collection of bold personalities—painters, performers, muralists, poets, business owners, and dreamers—poured their passion into their work and into the streets around them. Some faces stayed, some moved on, and some returned. But all of them left their mark.

They created more than art—they built a movement.

This community thrived not without struggle, but with resilience, creativity, and collaboration. Over the decades, countless leaders from the arts, business, and local government have volunteered their time, talents, and resources to support the 18b Arts District. Together, they established a 100% volunteer-run, nonprofit neighborhood association that has worked tirelessly to promote and protect what makes this place special.

From securing grants and artist opportunities to advocating for over 400 small, locally owned businesses across the 18b and Gateway Districts—affectionately known as The Las Vegas Arts District and Friends—this neighborhood has always been about community supporting community.

In the early years, our board of directors focused on securing city funding for public signage and art installations. As momentum grew, so did our impact. Today, we continue to amplify the voices of local businesses, organize community mixers and town halls, and bring people together for events like the annual Chalk It Down! Art Festival each spring, and the beloved Art Auction every autumn.

All proceeds from these events go right back into the community—funding grants, sponsorships, advocacy efforts, and resources for the artists and entrepreneurs who make the 18b thrive.

What began as Las Vegas’ best-kept secret is now a globally recognized arts district—a place where creativity, commerce, and community live side by side.

This is the story of The 18b.
And it’s still being written.
