The Battery protected Manhattan against threats from the sea when its shoreline forts deterred foreign navies. Today The Battery is called to serve again - to defend the city we love from the sea itself. As the global climate changes, sea levels rise higher, and storm surges become more frequent, The Battery must stand strong to protect our homes, our businesses, our very lives.

Two major construction projects are underway - one to elevate the 1,500-foot waterfront promenade by five feet and one to build a 10-foot-high landscaped berm along our northern perimeter. Through it all The Battery Conservancy maintains Playscape, SeaGlass Carousel, Urban Farms, Woodland Lawn, and Bosque and Labyrinth gardens to welcome all who seek nature, whether from around the corner or around the world.

We begin with cocktails at the rebuilt Bosque Fountain of 35 water jets and a glorious harbor sunset, followed by a farm to feast under a tent in the enchanted Woodland. Your generous purchase of a table or tickets ensures our work continues. The Gala is The Battery’s major fundraiser. Your generosity covers the costs of maintenance, horticulture, and educational programs.
