Children and families across Rhode Island need access to books, literacy activities and resources to improve literacy outcomes across the state. In Rhode Island's under-resourced communities, access to books remains a critical challenge, with only 20% of third graders in our four urban centers meeting reading expectations. We partner with teachers, schools and community centers to provide literacy resources that can support reading skills, and build the home libraries of families who might not otherwise have books at home. On average, Books Are Wings distributes over 67,000 free books each year to children at 44 educational partner sites across Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls, and Woonsocket and in community settings across Rhode Island.
