ROSE: Rowing has taught me about discipline and kindness. This team is my home away from home. More than rowing itself, I love the people and the community built around VIRC. Going to Nationals is an amazing experience achieved through hard work and dedication. The girls in my boat have become good friends and I am so excited and grateful that we are able to compete in Florida this year.

WILLA: Rowing has been a part of my life for about a year and a half now, and it has helped me make lots of friends and taken me on lots of adventures. This year I was so excited going into regionals with a boat of three other strong girls, and after a race full of endeavors, we earned our ticket to Florida. Our U17 quad has trained hard to get to where we are now, and it means so much to be able to row this boat at Nationals!

GWEN: I’ve loved rowing with VIRC these past two years and it’s taught me teamwork, commitment, and discipline whilst also being a source of strength and support. Going to Nationals this year is going to be an amazing experience that I hope will be an opportunity to grow and learn, both as a rower and a teammate.

KIRAN: Rowing has taught me so much: determination, confidence, discipline, and most of all, the value of teamwork. My boat mates and I have been there to support each other, push one another to be better, and share a friendship on and off the water. After all the meters we’ve rowed and the time we’ve dedicated, our hard work has paid off. We made it to nationals! I’m super excited for this opportunity, and we’re ready to give it our all!

GRAYSON: I am so thankful to have the island rowing community in my life. Being in the boat with my teammates and friends gives me an incredible sense of purpose. I’m honored and excited to have the opportunity to compete at Nationals for the second year in a row.

ALDEN: There are many things I love about rowing and being on my team, but one of the best moments for me is when we're coming down the course at the 250-meter mark and I can hear all the people on the beach cheering for us. Those moments mean the most to me

ARLO: I love many things about rowing, but there’s a certain moment when the whole crew is perfectly synchronized and the boat feels light and fast. Those are the moments I love the most.

BRENDAN: I’m excited about Nationals because I want to show what we’re capable of. I loved Regionals—it was exciting, fun, and an all-around amazing experience. I love rowing because the feeling of the water, the effort we put in, and the incredible atmosphere all make me feel like I truly belong.
