Every June, something powerful happens in our community.

Neighbors become organizers. Strangers become friends. And a shared history rooted in resilience, liberation, and joy comes alive at the Freedom Day Festival.

This annual celebration honoring Juneteenth (happening this year on Saturday, June 20, at Kohler Meadows Park from 4 - 8 PM) is not produced by a big company or funded by ticket sales. It exists because people care. It is built from the ground up by volunteers, fueled by donations, and strengthened by community sponsors and grants. Every detail, from the music on stage to the meals served, reflects collective effort and shared purpose.

At its heart, the Freedom Day Festival is about access, ensuring everyone, regardless of income, can come together to celebrate, learn, and connect. That is why the festival is free and why keeping it that way matters so much.

One of the most important ways we sustain and grow this event is through our annual online auction. Each bid placed is more than just a transaction. It is an investment in community. It helps ensure that this celebration continues not just next year, but for years to come.

With your support, we are expanding what the festival can offer, bringing in vibrant musical performances, creating hands on community art projects, and deepening our educational programming to honor and share Minnesota black history.
