As part of the conservation community, Over and Above Africa is dedicated to supporting our partners on the ground to protect and defend endangered wildlife in Africa. We are fortunate to have like-minded organizations work with us to help save wildlife and the environment.

Over & Above Africa, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, funds projects that protect and defend endangered and vulnerable wildlife in Africa and the communities they impact. Since 2014, our proven model of wildlife conservation bridges the gap between traditional preservation efforts and community-based initiatives.

The Angels Among Us Foundation will hold a charity golfing event at the exclusive Pelican Hill Golf Club on Thursday, April 10th. Funds raised will support Over & Above Africa's partnerships with boots-on-the-ground organizations that provide protection, refugee, relocation, and sanctuary to wildlife in Africa. This event is focused on supporting the protection of the majestic African elephant.

We are holding our Playing to Win Auction as a precursor to this incredible event to raise essential funding for African organizations that work to prevent the extinction of these animals.

The Plight of the African Elephant and What We Are Doing to Help:

Elephant poaching and culling in Africa remain a contentious and heart-wrenching issue that challenges conservationists and policymakers alike. Despite numerous protective measures, the majestic elephants continue to suffer at the hands of poachers driven by the lucrative ivory trade. This illegal activity threatens the species’ survival and the delicate ecological balance in their habitats. In some regions, authorities have resorted to culling to control elephant populations. The dual crisis of poaching and culling underscores the urgent need for sustainable solutions that encompass both the well-being of the elephants and the communities that coexist with them.

Relocation of Elephants at Risk of Culling:

In Partnership with Zululand Conservation Trust & Manyoni Private Game Reserve, we safely relocated an elephant herd at risk of being culled to the Babanango Private Game Reserve, South Africa, where new herds will be established on ample acreage and their safety is ensured. It was one of our "largest" projects!

Giving for Joy!

Joy is a little elephant found on the main road from Maun to Zimbabwe without her mother and herd, and looking for safety. The Botswana Department of Wildlife found her and brought her to Elephant Haven, an elephant sanctuary. She was treated by Dr. Botes and made her first friend in KT, her handler and constant companion.

An orphaned or abandoned elephant calf struggles to survive in the wild. They need nourishment and care from a mother and social bonds from the herd to learn essential behaviors. In an orphanage, handlers provide constant care, staying with the calves 24/7 and even sleeping in their enclosures. The calves are bottle-fed a special formula every three hours. Some elephants may still need milk at four years old. Handlers work together so the babies don't bond too much with one person. If a handler leaves, even for a short time, the calf could become depressed and unwell.
