My story begins in 1983 as a camper in the Pioneer section. I returned as a camper until 1986 which was my first year as a CIT. In fact, I believe I was a CIT in training the summer of '85. Over the next few years I became a junior counselor, counselor, director of the CITs and then assistant section leader of the Pioneer section by 1991. At this point in my life I was also an aspiring dancer and coming to AV each summer took president over everything. Even studying dance. These were the most memorable summers of my life and some of the best friends I have ever had. For those of you that remember this movie, my mom use to call us The Big Chill group. I hung out with this group even when we were not at camp. It was the best. AV shaped me into the person I am today. It helped me with my confidence, leadership, and made me the NYC public school teacher I have been the last 21 years. It was everything to me and I want as many kids as possible to continue to have the AV experience.

The memories of Agassiz Village for me will forever be a nostalgic joyride. The year was 1980 when a young 6 year old got on one of those buses to journey to the one place that would eventually become my home away from home. With every passing year the familiarity became normal but the adventures got more exciting because of the different activities, the exciting interactions I'd be apart of and amazing relationships I would make session after session. When I joined the staff it all started as a member of the AV working corps. From there I became a JR. Counselor and then a regular counselor. I got to be in the famous Indian section under Chief PC. It was there where I would have my best relationships with people like Giggles, Granola, Gummibear, Squiggly, Grover, Exec, Flex, Peanut, Sluggo, Flex, Tigger, Diamond, Mac, Mr. Welch, Eunice (the best damn camp chef EVER), Kevin, Chief Cat, Chief Cookie, Chief Chattabox, Chief Go-Go and so many more. To think that this wonderful place is 90 years strong is AWESOME. A part of me was raised here, I went from Boy To Man learning all about diversity all the while being amongst people amongst different backgrounds, ethnicities and colors..So Agassiz THANK YOU for allowing me to be apart of this history. Where else can you learn about nature, be able to express yourself through rhythm, poetry, dance, through song and through drama. Play basketball, soccer, tennis, hockey and of course tetherball (Still the reigning champ lol), swimming and more, Only one place THE GREATEST CAMP ON EARTH AGASSIZ VILLAGE.
Words simply cannot describe this moment BUT I must end this love letter by saying "We welcome you to Agassiz, We're mighty glad you're here.We welcome you to Agassiz we'll say it with a mighty cheer. We'll sing you in, We'll sing you out FOR YOU we'll raise a mighty shout, Hail hail the gangs all here we welcome you to Agassiz ALUMNI.
