Dear Supporters, as always, we seem to have many animals in need of emergency and hospital care. Evermore so now. Please read about dear Taffy's sad medical journey🌈. Taffy arrived in our care in November of 2025 and was placed into a loving foster home. We knew he was coming to us with demodex (demodectic mange), which is a skin condition caused by an overgrowth of microscopic mites that live in the fur. While being treated for the mange, Taffy also started showing signs of being sick. He spent the night in MedVet where they kept him on oxygen to help him breathe. Diagnosis revealed Taffy was suffering from pneumonia and also tested positive with a bad case of heartworm disease. Once the pneumonia was under control, he was released back to his loving foster human mommy and a plan was made to begin the process of treating the heartworm. Soon after Taffy started showing signs of being sick and was rushed to OVRS. Taffy’s heartworm was far more advanced than the doctors originally thought. The worms had actually infiltrated Taffy’s heart. They put him into an oxygen chamber to help him breathe. A makeshift portable oxygen chamber was constructed to rush Taffy to MSU Vet Hospital. Surgeons were standing by waiting for foster mommy to transport him. The planned surgery was to manually remove the worms from Taffy’s heart.

This little cutie only weighed 10 pounds. All of these illnesses were too much for Taffy’s little body. His strength was not there, and he pass away on the operating table where the skilled surgeons were trying to save his life.

We are using this platform to remember Taffy. He lived only 5 short years in this world. We are heartbroken with the loss. RIP sweet boy. We did everything possible, but it wasn’t enough.

We would do it again in a heartbeat but need supporters like you to help us keep the funds on hand for the next cutie who needs our help.
