The 2025 Action Maverick Award Benefit was a night of powerful tributes, thrilling performance, and deep celebration of artistic daring.

We gathered to honor Pat Steir, whose fearless approach to visual art continues to shape and challenge contemporary culture. Pat’s paintings capture gesture, gravity, and time itself—and her words on Wednesday night reminded us of the radical generosity and imagination that define her practice.

In a moving tribute, Elizabeth Streb reflected on Pat’s extraordinary vision: “Do one thing every day that scares you…and give it as a gift to someone you could never, ever live up to.”

Co-chairs Mickalene Thomas and Majora Carter spoke with deep heart and insight, illuminating the strength of community and the generative power of creative friendship.
