Citadel Christian School is a Classical Christian School in Brenham. Additionally, we are an independent, accredited, and private school. As our main focus, we incorporate Christian values into everything we do. For parents seeking a PreK-12th grade educational alternative for their children, we offer relevant, life-equipping instruction delivered by highly qualified, caring teachers.

Classical education differs from progressive and conventional education in that it works with the natural developmental stages of the child. Rather than a goal of producing the next generation of workers while attempting to predict the nature of future job markets, the goals of a Classical curriculum are to

provide a foundation of knowledge in the early years when children are able to absorb facts with ease;
build understanding on that foundation in the middle years as students begin to think through arguments;
teach older students wisdom as they learn to reason and effectively express themselves.

At every stage, the Classical educator is intentional about instilling wisdom and virtue in each student.

In primary classes (grammar school), learning is almost exclusively focused on knowledge acquisition, using mostly didactic teaching methods and memorization. Chants, jingles, and songs make that memorization and learning fun.
In the preteen and early teen years (the logic stage), instruction becomes more analytical, as children learn the arts of debate and critique along with a continuation of knowledge learning. These students are given the tools to develop sound reasoning through courses in informal and formal logic.
In the secondary years (the rhetoric stage), students are trained to write and speak with eloquence and originality, learning to persuade and to apply the knowledge and understanding.

Foundational – We are committed to honoring Christ at Citadel and maintaining the foundation of biblical authority in every aspect of our teaching and practice. It is the first value we hold to and guides everything else we do: our pedagogy, our discipline process, our policy-making, our marketing, etc.

Chapel – In addition to a dedicated Bible class for each grade, our students attend chapel each week. Local pastors and Bible teachers are invited as guest speakers on a regular basis. Students also have opportunities to do chapel presentations with their class at various times throughout the year.

Scripture memorization – Citadel has a schoolwide Scripture memorization program that trains students to hide God’s Word in their hearts. Passages are chosen each year to undergird the chapel theme, and/or bolster students’ understanding of biblical events such as the birth of Christ, or His death and resurrection. Students will also memorize verses assigned by teachers to provide greater insight into the academic truth being taught in a given class.

Social and Personal

Demonstrate leadership with honesty and integrity.
Understand the worth of every human being as created in the image of God, and treat all people with compassion, respect, dignity, grace, and truth.
Develop biblical attitudes toward marriage and the family, as well as the understanding and skills needed to establish God-fearing homes.
Practice responsible stewardship of God’s creation.
Be good stewards of their finances, time, and all other resources.
Practice good health habits and physical fitness, treating their bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit.
Demonstrate a realistic and biblical view of work and material things as means to accomplish God’s glory.

Academic and Intellectual

Demonstrate mastery in all academic disciplines, including reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking.
Be proficient in mathematics, science, and problem-solving.
Have knowledge and understanding of people, events, and movements in history (including church history) and the cultures of other peoples and places.
