We are Innovations Family Wellness, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Innovations Family Wellness (IFW) seeks to provide high-quality, experienced, accessible perinatal care for families. We offer in-house breastfeeding support and also have a network of partnering providers to offer holistic perinatal services to families. These services include but are not limited to lactation care, chiropractic care, and midwifery care. IFW strives to serve women and families from all walks of life, and believes everyone deserves access to holistic care.

IFW's current goals include contributing to the decrease in infant and maternal mortality rates; and increasing breastfeeding success rates in the Tulsa community, with the ultimate goal of more babies reaching the World Health Organization (WHO recommendation of 2 years of age or older.

According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control Black women experience pregnancy-related deaths at 3-4 times the rate of white women, even when socioeconomic status is taken into account. Oklahoma has the highest Black maternal mortality rate of all 50 states. Only 10% of Oklahoma babies are born to Black mothers. However, Black women make up 22% of birth and pregnancy related deaths in this state.

At IFW we focus on changing this statistic. Research has shown having a culturally diverse team can lower these numbers. IFW seeks to train women of color to become holistic perinatal providers including CLC/IBCLCs, doulas, midwives and more. There is a great disparity when it comes to providers of color and we want to mend that gap in efforts to lower maternal death rates.
