This observance, established over 30 years ago, shines a spotlight on the nearly 400,000 children in the U.S. foster care system and the families, professionals, and volunteers who support them.

Every day in America:

Children enter foster care through no fault of their own, primarily due to abuse, neglect, or family crisis
Over 100,000 children in foster care are waiting to be adopted
Nearly 20,000 young adults "age out" of foster care each year without permanent family connections
Many face significant challenges related to education, employment, housing, and mental health
