Baltimore Community Rowing is Pulling Together for a Stronger Baltimore!

Baltimore Community Rowing (BCR) promotes the sport of rowing for fitness, competition, and recreation. BCR is committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive, racially diverse rowing community and providing equitable access to the sport of rowing to residents of the Baltimore metro area. In addition to many successful adult rowing programs, BCR provides access to high-level training and racing in the sport of rowing, fee assistance, transportation assistance, environmental education, and summer job opportunities for middle and high school athletes from Baltimore City and the surrounding counties.

Funds raised during the 2023 Year End Campaign will support the formation of a no-cost rowing program for Baltimore City Public School students in 2024: the Baltimore Rowing League. The Baltimore Rowing League will be offered to schools and after-school organizations and will provide students the opportunity to train 2 days a week with their classmates/peers on a dedicated rowing team. Groups of 10-12 students from each school will be assigned their own coach and will train for 8 weeks with the goal of competing against other Baltimore Rowing League teams at the end of their season. Baltimore Rowing League athletes can then choose to train, travel, and race with BCR's high school and middle school teams with access to full scholarships and summer job opportunities.

Our first Baltimore Rowing League team --the Restoring Inner City Hope rowing team-- is on the water this Fall, and BCR has interest from 2 additional schools for Spring of 2024. Every $10,000 raised supports coaching, equipment, and resources for one team. Our goal is to support 3 teams in 2024! We have funded 2 teams and are just a few thousand dollars away from funding a third.
