Changing One Life: Supporting Maia’s Fight Against Cancer
In the United States, 15,780 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer every year, and heartbreakingly, about one in four will lose their battle to this devastating disease. A cancer diagnosis is life-altering—not just for the child, but for their entire family. This is where Gamma Phi Epsilon, a local sorority at Trine University, steps in. While we can’t change the lives of all 15,780 children, our mission is to make a lasting difference for one very special child—Maia.

In February 2022, Maia was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that developed as a tumor on her rib. Her family has faced childhood cancer before—her older brother, Maddox, bravely battled leukemia—and together they’ve shown incredible courage and resilience. Despite enduring surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, Maia continues to radiate positivity and compassion. Even while fighting her own battle, she has helped deliver over 75 care packages and toys to other young patients at Riley Hospital, bringing light to others in dark times. Maia loves her cousins, pug, skincare routine, kickball, and her favorite Starbucks drinks that brighten her days.
