Hi - I'm Lorie Lewis, President of DEAR Diabetes.

DEAR Diabetes was started in response to the growing epidemic of diabetes, and the debilitating effects diabetes can have on individuals and their families when diabetes spirals out of control.

I personally witnessed this with my beautiful daughter when she began experiencing complications from her diabetes. When I attended her doctor's appointments and saw other young people living with diabetes complications, I was compelled to take action.

Since starting DEAR Diabetes, we have provided educational classes within our community and have granted funds to individuals and families struggling as a result of diabetes. Funds help individuals and families stay in their home avoiding eviction and interruption of their utilities.

Your support and donations will help DEAR Diabetes continue to provide support to individuals and families in our community.

Alita's story -

By 2022, Alita's vision had already begun deteriorating as a result of diabetic retinopathy, and she had already lost 2 toes months prior. Then she battled for her life from a gangrene infected foot which led to osteomyelitis and sepsis. After surgery to remove a bone in her foot and months of rehabilitation, in October 2022, she had a below the knee amputation.

Although Alita lowered her A1C, in June 2024, Alita developed an ulcer on her right foot which led to the amputation of her remaining toes in September 2024.

Her resilience and strength have been an inspiration to everyone.
