I started volunteering for Red Hook Responds last fall because I felt so powerless in the face of all the issues in the world. I didn't want to keep talking. I wanted to take action in a way that was local and impactful.

And I feel passionately about people not going hungry.

RHR brings meals and groceries, locally, to anyone who asks. Children, elderly, housebound, anyone who asks for help. No administrative layer, no proof of need, not even last names required. Kids are identified through schools as appearing to need meals, groceries, and they are scheduled and delivered. They provide community meals for fellowship. They even build standing gardens for the elderly or infirm, so they can grow their own vegetables. And they have many other services! redhookresponds.org

Amazingly, I came across this statue of Eleanor Roosevelt, tucked away on a walk I was taking.

The quote read:
