What are the Sunrise Programs?

The David Posnack Jewish Community Center has established 2 new programs called Sunrise Day Camp-Fort Lauderdale and Sunrise on Wheels.

What is Sunrise Day Camp Fort Lauderdale?

Sunrise Day Camp is for children with cancer and their siblings, from kindergarten – 10th grade. This camp is COMPLIMENTARY and will be housed on the campus at the David Posnack Jewish Community Center in Davie, Florida beginning December 26, 2023. Sunrise starts each day celebrating campers as they arrive. They will spend their time enjoying music, singing, dancing, playing sports and games, creating arts and crafts, making friends and wrap up each day with a special treat.

What is Sunrise on Wheels?

Sunrise on Wheels is a year-round program that began October 2, 2023. Trained personnel from the David Posnack JCC go twice a week to our participating hospital, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, where We spend 3 hours per visit with a trunk full of crafts, toys, games, music, and various activities. This transforms what can often be a difficult and scary day into a day of fun.

Why give to these programs for GivingTuesday?

The David Posnack Jewish Community Center wants to raise $100,000 for these programs. Sunrise on Wheels provides year-round service and Sunrise Day Camp-Fort Lauderdale provides a week in December, January, and March.

Families of children with cancer are under a large financial burden. Your gift will ensure the Sunrise programs will remain FREE for every child and their siblings. We want to be able to give these children a chance to have fun, be a kid, and make friends, regardless of their health challenges.

Imagine a child who has been diagnosed with cancer. They are going through the most difficult experience of their life. They are scared, confused, and in pain. But what if they could go to a place where they could forget about their cancer and just be a kid.

Let’s give them hope by opening our hearts and our wallets and letting them know WE CARE. Life sometimes takes us into unthinkable places, but even during dark times we can do our part and make a child’s light shine.
