Hope Reins is a Therapy and Wellness center providing experiential equine-assisted psychotherapy and learning. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) integrates several psychological approaches with the use of one or more horses.
The focus of EAP or equine assisted psychotherapy, is not riding or horsemanship, but rather on self-exploration, insight, skills building, and learning. A specialized treatment team of a licensed Mental Health Specialist, a certified Equine Specialist and one or more Horses work with clients in an experiential manner to help them learn about themselves and others, while processing or discussing feelings, behaviors, and patterns. The goal is to help the client in social, emotional, cognitive, or behavioral ways and allows the client(s) to learn from natural successes, mistakes, and consequences
During a Horse Powered Reading® or Math session, the horse and the child become partners in learning. The horse becomes the reading material or "book" students need to connect with. Without finding and making some connection with the text, it is easy to drift away or lose interest in a book. The horse becomes a metaphor for that connection. A variety of exercises and games are used to help kids connect.
Social-emotional issues, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns often get in the way of student learning .
Horse Powered Reading® can break through those challenges giving students a chance to learn or reinforce reading and other academic skills in the moment
