Nolan’s Story

For the Hsu family, the fight against brain cancer is deeply personal. At just 30 years old, Nolan was diagnosed with an oligodendroglioma.

On September 7, 2021, he underwent brain surgery. His tumor was fully resected, but life was never the same. Even with a stage 2 diagnosis, the family quickly realized what too many patients already know: treatment options for brain cancer are desperately outdated—many unchanged since the 1970s.

That painful reality sparked a mission. Nolan, his wife Kate, and the Hsu family founded the Brain Cancer Research Alliance to push for change—so that patients like Nolan won’t just get “more time,” but will one day find a cure.

For malignant brain tumors, the average five-year survival rate is only 23%.
Yet, research into new treatments remains severely underfunded.
