IHI Therapy Center (Institute for Human Identity) is an NYC-based non-profit psychotherapy and training center dedicated to fostering personal growth free of traditional gender, sexual orientation, and cultural biases. Our vision is a world where everyone — regardless of their gender identity, sexuality, race, age, disability, or immigration status — can find safety and support through affordable mental health care that is respectful of their needs and experiences.

After leading the successful struggle to have homosexuality removed from the list of mental disorders in 1973, IHI was founded to fill an important need: providing affirmative professional mental health services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities.

Since then, our practice has continued to embrace a holistic approach to therapy. We recognize that systemic racism and inequality are interconnected, and they have an impact on the lived experiences of both our staff and clients. Because of this, we strive to create a space for constant learning and growth for all who come into our practice.

Now, as a welcome countercurrent to our collective challenges including unpredictable funding and rampant anti-trans legislation, we are hosting a Friendraiser & Auction. We invite you to donate and make a difference in the lives of LGBTQ+ folks in our communities who need our support.
