Own one of the most coveted items in VR history! A Collector's Poster of the first fully immersive headset, and a personal 90 minute conversation with Dr. Tom Furness.
Forty years ago, Dr. Tom Furness led the USAF team that developed the first fully immersive wide field-of-view 3D VR display system termed the Visual Coupled Airborne Systems Simulator (VCASS). He used this as a demonstrator for the Super Cockpit project…the cockpit that pilot wears. The VCASS became the world’s first glimpse into the Metaverse and was featured on network television and other media outlets during 1985-1989. It was a culmination of Dr. Furness’ early work in virtual and augmented reality that began in 1966.
Place your bid quickly, as this auction is only at AWE June 18-20. Participants are able to bid on site and on line.
I am donating as an individual who is in AWE (all puns intended) of Dr. Furness' work in hopes that we - together in VWS - will carry on. Thanks to Dr. Furness for your kindness and generosity during our discussion at AWE 2024. I mentioned my son heading to college and you were genuinely engaged with the ideas circulating in the next generation
I am also a corporate XR professional who will work for organizational membership simultaneously. May this work go on!

I wish I could donate more but I got the chance to meet Dr. Furness for just a few moments today at the end of the AWE Auggie Awards and I am so appreciative of his warmness towards someone like me who was a volunteer at the event and a new developer entering the VR Space. Thank you Tom for inviting me personally to join the Virtual World Society. I hope I can be more involved as I grow in this field
