The Mendocino Land Trust has more than 45 years of success in working to expand coastal access, conserve land, and protect habitats. But we're not resting on our laurels. There's still much to be done, and we invite you to join us with our "what comes next" fundraiser, the Sunset Soirée.

Let’s take a quick stroll through these public access projects, heading from north to south.

First up, MLT is eager to develop a parcel of nearly 600 acres of pygmy forest. This location off Hwy 20 was recently purchased by the City of Fort Bragg. The city will use 30 acres to construct three small water storage reservoirs. Then MLT will move forward with the remaining land to plan and develop this site for public access, habitat restoration, and protection.

Farther south, in Albion, MLT will be developing over a mile of the coastal trail within the Caltrans right-of-way along Hwy. 1. The trail will be in the right-of-way but separated from the highway where possible. Also in Albion, we will be developing a public-access trail easement between private property parcels to give access to the spectacular bluffs and views of the ocean.

And still, there’s more!

Farther south, in Point Arena, MLT is working to develop a little trail link so that people can walk north from Point Arena Cove to the south end of the Storneta trail. This is in keeping with our efforts to make trails connect where possible and open up options and variety in how you explore the striking beauty of our area.

A little south of Point Arena, MLT is acquiring 12 acres which allows for an important connection of the California Coastal Trail (CCT) in southern Mendocino County, connecting Hearn Gulch to a Caltrans vista and eventually Schooner Gulch State Park.

Finally, in Gualala, we are assisting the Redwood Coast Land Conservancy in the ecological restoration and public access development of their Mill Bend Preserve and the Coastal Trail connecting Gualala to Mill Bend Preserve.
