Community Investors PlayRox

In 2014 Community Investors and its PlayRox programs, was founded by local caring and knowledgeable parents to combat the epidemic of mental health issues based on the proliferation of smartphones, social media, the internet & video games which have resulted in growing electronics addiction, interpersonal social retraction, inactivity & obesity profoundly affecting youth at increasingly earlier ages. Simultaneously, decreasing trends in recreation, a critically needed source of physical, social & emotional development, have created a “perfect storm” further intensified by the pandemic resulting in spiking increases in youth anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts & attempts. All are solvable with organic remedies, but require focus, support & innovation.

Inspired by almost 35 years of Terriers Sports experience, for over 10 years, serving diverse groups, we have developed a highly innovative formula creating elevated levels of joy, an essential element motivating lasting engagement in active play, a critical need as society competes increasingly with virtual reality. Based on studies of music having a positive effect on movement & social emotional development, our key & unique dynamic is a fusion of Student Music & Coaching programs energizing experiences in choreographed active play. Beyond energizing activities, the program provides kids opportunities to learn how to DJ and do Play by Play announcing at games and is particularly beneficial to kids who enjoy sports, but may not be as naturally inclined or interested to play the sport but want to be a part of the program. The Music & Media program allows them to help create & run “The Show”! It also provides participants with valuable skills and experiences that have resulted in program graduates pursuing professional careers. While our kids have enjoyed this program locally for many years, we are working to formalize the program & help kids Rock sports everywhere!

In 2019, following a study for a major expansion of enrichment programs, the Massachusetts Education Committee asked our organization to share our three decades of experience to blueprint our uniquely inclusive, enjoyable & impactful active play programs to expand reach.

Denise Pope, PhD, co-founder of Challenge Success, a Stanford University national leader of research-based student wellness solutions, recognized us as a “Best Practitioner of Play”, their core prescription to improve wellness with more “Play Time, Down Time and Family Time”.

We are designated by the US Department of Health & Human Services as a National Youth Sports Strategy Champion. While our formula is simple and organic, we are innovators empowering students to lead peers of diverse groups to impactful enjoyment in fun, inclusive & autonomous environments. We have a highly scalable formula to share with schools, organizations & communities everywhere providing needed organic remedies. We truly believe we have one of the “Next Vaccines” to heal our youth & develop lasting wellness. With additional capacity we can scale to provide immediate and lasting support.
