Mildred Myers: The Riverboat Witch of St. Charles

Dec. 18, 1801 – Oct. 31, 1874

Legend has it, Mildred Myers was no ordinary woman. Born in the early 1800s, she prowled the banks of the Missouri River, becoming known as the “St. Charles Riverboat Witch.” She cursed and kidnapped mischievous children, luring them aboard her riverboat with her eerie, hypnotic eyes. Once aboard, the children were never seen again.

But fate caught up with Mildred one stormy Halloween night. As her riverboat hit a bump, she tumbled overboard, sinking into the dark waters below. When her lifeless body was dragged ashore, the townspeople were horrified to find her still green and stiff as a board. They had no choice but to turn her into a scarecrow, hoping her spirit would be forever trapped.
