Dan Prusak (1951–2021)

Please join Reb Tirzah, Ba’alat Tefilah Michelle, and other Nevei Kodesh members who loved Dan Prusak, long time Nevei Kodesh member, to honor his memory by raising funds for arts in our Religious School through bidding on Dan's precious Judaica items and memorabilia.

Dan had a deep desire to benefit Nevei Kodesh through his estate, but died suddenly and unexpectedly. Two years later, it’s our chance to bring his wish forward.

Funds raised through this auction will provide a unique opportunity for Nevei Kodesh kids to create ceramic ritual objects through a project led by artists Penny Perlman and Deb Skovron.

A Word about Dan, by Reb Tirzah

Dan came into our community quietly, curiously studying our customs and riding ecstatically on the waves of our music and prayers. It was clear to me from the start that this was an unusual man: a civil servant, master potter, breeder of roses, baker of challah. He was a faithful partner and doting father of an adopted daughter who died young. Above all, Dan was a lover of the Shechinah. Every Friday night he came into the sanctuary with a gorgeous spray of perfect roses in honor of the Shabbat Queen; he wanted nothing more than to lift up our prayers, to lift up Nevei Kodesh. Was Dan a Tzadik Nistar, one of the hidden righteous ones who hold up the world? Even as he suffered gravely throughout his life, his dedication to Judaism and to our community was unflagging. Today, his last belongings are imbued with holiness—the vessels he crafted, the treasure box that held his candles, the prayer shawl he wore unfailingly every Shabbat and each dawn when returned home from his night shift at the Post Office. May Dan’s pure neshama soar and continue to bless each of us, and this community he called home.
