The mission of Opportunity House is to create a St. Louis where all young people have access to safe and stable housing. Through culturally fluent, social justice-oriented housing and support services, Opportunity House creates a safe and compassionate environment that honors the identities and dignity of all individuals. This creates the safety and security necessary for healing, learning, and life-long stability and success.

Values

The mission of the organization are realized through the organization’s core values: 

Accountability.  We all make mistakes.  We honor these mistakes as opportunities for growth. 
Collaboration.  We can’t do this alone.  Proactive community engagement is necessary for ensuring the success of all young people. 
Commitment.  We must continue.  The work at times seems daunting but our young people deserve every opportunity to achieve their goals.

Services and History

Opportunity House provides housing to young people experiencing homelessness. Residents live in apartments leased by the organization and receive case management and mental health care to support their education, employment, financial, and health and wellbeing goals. 

Opportunity House has experienced steady growth in its capacity to serve young people in the 2SLGBTQIA+. In June 2023, the organization opened its first 4-bed housing site to provide safe, affirming shelter for this population. By March 2024, the program expanded to support 8 young people.
