Honoring Our Heroes: Veterans Weekend Fundraiser

Each Veterans Day Weekend, the community of Recovery, Georgia comes together to honor and support our veterans. This year's event is dedicated to raising funds to complete a handicapped accessible fishing boat and pier, ensuring inclusivity to all veterans and the public, regardless of physical limitations, to enjoy the peace and tranquility of fishing and the great outdoors.

Throughout the weekend, the events are open to the public, inviting everyone to come out and show their support for our veterans. With each activity and donation, the community comes together in unity to express gratitude and provide essential resources for those who have served our country.

Friday night:

Sunset Flag Retirement Ceremony:

Respectfully retiring worn and ripped American flags.

Following the ceremony, the lake comes alive:

Block Party:

Featuring live music by the Caliber Band, playing 6 – 9 pm.

BBQ Dinner:

Attendees can enjoy delicious BBQ, conducted by and a fundraiser benefitting the local Recovery Fire Department, a crucial partner in supporting our veterans.

Saturday:

Various exciting events throughout the day for participants and spectators alike.

Grand Slam Fishing Tournament: First Light with Weigh In at 2 pm Entry Fee: $100 per boat

The Grand Slam Fishing Tournament beckons anglers of all skill levels to put their expertise and determination to the test. So gather your gear and join us for a day of friendly competition. The Grand Slam Fishing Tournament provides a fun and rewarding day for all types of anglers.

The tournament creates opportunities for both seasoned anglers and newcomers, offering four categories—

Bass, Panfish, Catfish, and Junk Fish— each with three cash prizes.

In the grand finale, the Grand Slam culminates in a thrilling challenge—participants must present the best three-fish weight, with each fish representing a different category. One 1^st place cash prize.

American Legion hosts the "Be the One" 5K, Walk and Ruck March: 11am – 1pm Entry Fee: $30

The American Legion's "Be the One" suicide awareness initiative is a vital program focused on preventing veteran suicide, currently 22 veterans a day commit suicide. The program will destigmatize asking for mental health support, provide peer-to-peer support and resources, and educate everyone on how they can "Be the One".

Participants Information:

The event will traverse the scenic At Ease Campground located on the shores of Lake Seminole, with the option to run, walk, or march. The course consists of dirt roads and grass, meandering through lush tree groves and offering views of the picturesque lake, providing a serene and visually captivating setting for the participants' journey. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Each participant will receive an event t-shirt and upon finishing the course, a Be the One challenge coin/medal.

Reel Deal Raffle and Silent Auction: On Display in Restaurant

Ticket Sales: Friday 5:30 – 9 pm and Saturday 11 am – 5 pm. Winners will be drawn at 5 pm on Saturday, you DO NOT have to be present to win.

With a wide array of incredible items up for grabs, this portion of the fundraiser promises to be a treasure trove of opportunities for the highest bidder or lucky ticket holder.

From coveted FSU game tickets to guided fishing trips and weekend getaways to the beach, each item holds the promise of an unforgettable experience. Lots of awesome merchandise, fishing gear and Basket of Cheer…This is just a glimpse of the numerous amazing experiences and items that will be available, ensuring that there is something for everyone to get excited about.

Car & Vehicle Show: 2 – 5 pm Complimentary to All

Vehicle enthusiasts will delight in the Car Show featuring classic and modern vehicles of all types: cars, trucks, jeeps and motorcycle's all lined up for your viewing pleasure.

Chili Cook Off: 2 – 5 pm Tasting Fee: $5 Entry Fee: $20

Chili Cook-Off provides an opportunity to taste delicious culinary creations, with official judging and a “Peoples Choice Challenge” come out to taste and vote for your favorites.

Fish Fry Dinner: 2:45 pm- until it runs out! Cost: By Donation

About as fresh as you can get! Enjoy the array of fresh fish caught during the Grand Slam Fishing Tournament, fried to golden perfection or grilled with delicious seasoning. Dinners fresh fish will be accompanied by French fires and coleslaw.
