The Texas Relays represent the pinnacle of Texas sports tradition. Yet as the sports industry continues to grow, too many talented students from underserved communities lack access to opportunities in this thriving field.

In May 2022, local community leaders united to change this reality. Their vision: support Texas students passionate about sports-related careers while honoring the legacy of Black Texans who have shaped the world of sports.

The Texas Black Legacy Foundation (TBLF) was established in fall 2022 with a clear mission: empower deserving students from underserved communities through need-based scholarships for sports-related studies and careers.

Our Approach

TBLF goes beyond financial aid. Through partnerships with community organizations, we provide comprehensive support including:

Wellness initiatives
Job training programs
Financial literacy education
Internship opportunities with Texas businesses and sports organizations

Our Commitment

We preserve and celebrate the history of Black Texans who have impacted the sports world while serving their communities. By connecting students with mentors, internships, and real-world opportunities, we help them build competitive careers in sports.

TBLF serves as a catalyst for change—creating pathways where talent can thrive regardless of circumstance and empowering young people to shape their futures through sports.
