The Infinite Impact: Marcus's Journey

Who is Marcus? - Released after 12 years of incarceration, Marcus faced a world that moved on without him. He felt uncertain and isolated.

His first step wasn’t into a program—it was into a church.
Through PMI's Rise Up Ministries, which helps churches build and sustain reentry and recovery ministries rooted in redemption, rebirth, and restoration, Marcus encountered a faith community that embraced him fully. He heard real testimonies. He felt seen. For the first time, Marcus experienced a faith that included him—just as he was.

Then came Building Bridges.
Through this PMI initiative, which forms partnerships with reentry organizations and social service providers across the 5 Pillars of Reentry, Marcus was connected to the support he needed. With the guidance of his church’s reentry ministry, he accessed housing assistance, job readiness training, mentorship, and wraparound services—all made possible through the relationships Building Bridges had already established..

When doubt crept back in, Marcus tuned in to the Out of the Ashes Podcast, hearing stories from people who walked similar roads. Their stories became his fuel—reminding him that his life mattered and his healing was possible.

And then he found his voice.
At PMI’s monthly RED Lounge open mic, Marcus began to share his poetry. He formed friendships, built confidence, and found a chosen family of creatives and fellow survivors. Through our partner, Second Chance Ministries at Church One, he joined a support group that reminded him he didn’t have to do this alone.

Marcus’s story is a fictional vision of what we believe is possible for every person returning from incarceration or recovery.
