Helmets First began with a simple idea: that every child deserves a safe ride, no matter where they live or what their family can afford. Founded by Helmets First, the initiative grew out of countless real-world experiences—children arriving in Dr. Joe’s pediatric practice after preventable bike injuries, families sharing that helmets were “too expensive,” and police officers wishing they had something meaningful to offer during neighborhood interactions.

What started as a small, local giveaway quickly evolved into a community movement. Partnerships formed with local police departments, schools, and civic organizations, allowing Helmets First to distribute thousands of helmets across the region. Every event became more than a handout—it became an opportunity to teach safety, build trust, and connect families with the people who protect their communities.

Today, Helmets First continues to expand its reach with the same mission it started with:
protecting kids’ futures, one helmet at a time.
