SInce 2011, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat has nurtured the growth of over 200 musical theatre writers with weeklong residencies in the Hudson Valley to focus solely on writing. All the writers' costs are covered by generous donors, including the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council of the Arts, The ASCAP Foundation, The Noël Coward Foundation, and the National Foundation for Musical Theatre.

Writers from the Retreat have received prestigious awards with work they wrote during the residency, including the Fred Ebb Award, Kleban Award, Jonathan Larson Grant, and Richard Rodgers award. Musicals developed in Rhinebeck have received productions in theaters around the world, including in California, Maryland, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Texas. This year in London, OPERATION MINCEMEAT won the 2024 Olivier award is now headed to Broadway! OPERATION MINCEMEAT starts previews on Broadway on February 15 for a limited run at The Golden Theater.
