In 2023, the Christian Lee Honea Memorial Scholarship Endowment was established at the UMKC School of Law in honor of Christian, who tragically lost his life to suicide in 2018 after returning home from his service overseas with the U.S. Marines.

In November 2024, the First Annual CLHMS Fundraiser was held to raise money in support of the scholarship. It was a major learning experience, as any first-time event is, but more than that, it was humbling. The outpouring of support from the Kansas City community was a powerful reminder that people do care and want to take action to help our veterans.

The response to that event, and the lessons learned through it, led to the creation of STOP 22 an initiative dedicated to reducing veteran suicide through the power of community.

STOP 22 is about restoring purpose and identity to those who have served by:

Providing tuition assistance for educational and vocational opportunities
Offering limited scope legal services
Creating safe, healthy spaces where veterans can connect, heal, and thrive.

On November 7, 2025, we invite you to join us for the Second Annual CLHMS Fundraising Event at Longview Mansion in Lee’s Summit. The evening will include dinner, a silent auction, and a comedy show — all in support of a mission that matters deeply: preventing veteran suicide and building a better future for those who’ve given so much to our country.
