Sankofa City 2050 Fundraising Gala

This September 13, KAOS Networks of Leimert Park and Mobility Futures Alliance are hosting a Fundraising Gala in the historic View Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. The key focus of this fundraising is to support the making of Sankofa City 2050, a short-form narrative, funky feature to be created and directed by renowned filmmaker, artist and community leader Ben Caldwell. Multiple Emmy Award winner producer Llewellyn Wells of Mobility Futures Alliance will be supporting Ben and his filmmaking team.

Sankofa City 2050 will be an engaging and immersive vision for Leimert Park in 2050, based on the dreams and aspirations of the community itself, and will incorporate Mobility Futures Alliance’s expertise around transportation solutions and future technology possibilities. Sankofa in the African Akan language means "go back and get it", and the film will celebrate the history, culture and deep traditions of Leimert Park.

This Fundraising Gala will not only support Sankofa City 2050 the film, it will also support KAOS Activation Days and allow Mobility Futures Alliance to begin a two-year study to research, envision and implement a community-serving mobility system. That system will build on the current Circuit Loop that Ben and KAOS Networks launched in Leimert Park several years ago. Once the future vision is established, Mobility Futures Alliance and KAOS Networks will work with the Leimert Park community and our network of advisors and partners to develop a Visual Roadmap that will guide the real-world implementation and activation of this future vision.

The lessons learned and experience gained in Leimert Park will enable MFA and KAOS Networks to develop a model, framework and methodology that can be activated in other communities to address their specific challenges. Whether these communities are urban, suburban or rural, our efforts – and the visions we will co-create – will be tailored to each community’s circumstances, aspirations and needs.

Proceeds raised will be used for the time, expertise and resources required to make this film and the work that Mobility Futures Alliance is doing in furthering their mission to improve lives through better transportation in partnership with KAOS and the Leimert Park Community. Proceeds will also benefit KAOS Activation Day programming.
