The Nancy Kay Holmes Branch of the Scranton Public Library is a true Green Ridge landmark.
Located on the southwest corner of Wyoming Avenue and Green Ridge Street, the library was erected soon after a charter was granted for its establishment on June 27, 1889. The library began as an outgrowth of a group of people who had formed a book club. Within a few years, it became necessary to obtain larger quarters. The club sponsored the construction of the Green Ridge Library for $75,000. On July 30, 2010, the library was renamed in honor of the late Scranton civic leader, Nancy Kay Holmes.

Thanks to the community's support, we have met our initial $300,000 goal, which enables us to apply for a matching Keystone Grant for Library Facilities.

These funds will transform this 134-year-old building into a library for everyone. ADA-compliant plans call for a new entrance to be installed on the south side of the building with a ramp leading to accessible parking spaces on Wyoming Avenue. The interior will be renovated for accessibility, including a new public restroom. Flooring and some furnishings will be replaced. In addition, windows and lighting will be replaced to increase the energy efficiency of the building.

However, some of the much-needed updates for the building are not supported under the funding requirements of the Keystone Grant. This brings us to our second fundraising phase.
