NICHOLAS KEVIN SLOAN

Police Officer Nicholas Sloan was shot and killed while conducting a narcotics operation near the intersection of North Taylor Avenue and Enright Avenue.

Officer Sloan and his partner were participating in a narcotics operation made possible through the federal Weed and Seed Program. The officers were observing drug sales in the parking lot of a liquor store.

Upon observing a transaction, he and his partner approached one of the subjects. The man immediately began to struggle with the officers. During the struggle, Officer Sloan suffered several injuries, including a deep gash above his right eye.

As the three continued to struggle the suspect was able to gain control of Officer Sloan's service weapon. He shot Officer Sloan once in the chest, just above his vest. The suspect then fired at Officer Sloan's partner three times, striking him twice. Despite being wounded, the partner was able to return fire and killed the suspect.

Officer Sloan had served with the St. Louis Police Department for just over two years. He wa survived by his son Gavin girlfriend, parents, and two sisters, large extended family and friends and countless brothers/sisters in uniform.

In memory of our cousin, Police Officer Nicholas Sloan, we are having a party to celebrate his life and honor the sacrifice he made 20 years ago on January 30, 2004. Nick was only 24 years old, when he was shot and killed in the line of duty. Nick left behind a miriad of people that were devastated by his loss. We will continue our healing process as a group when we celebrate and take time to put the memory of Nick on the forefront of everyones mind.

All proceeds from this event will be donated to The BackStoppers Inc. in memory of Nick, and all of the other Policemen, Firefighters, and EMT workers that have given their lives to protect us and our families. A special thanks to The BackStoppers of St. Charles County for your assistance in planning this event.
