How it works

How to Bid on Givebutter Auctions

1. Register / Log In

Go to the auction’s Givebutter page.
If you haven’t already, click “Register to Bid” (this is required for auction items). help.givebutter.com
Log in to your account. Once registered and logged in, you’ll see options like Saved, My Bids, and Settings. help.givebutter.com

2. Find the Auction Items

Navigate to the Auction tab or section of the campaign page (not just the main donation or campaign page). help.givebutter.com+1
Click on the item you want to bid on to see its details.

3. Place a Bid

There are two bidding methods an organization can enable. You’ll only see one of these depending on how the auction is configured.

Standard Bidding:
• Enter the amount you want to bid (must be higher than the current minimum). help.givebutter.com+1
• If someone outbids you, you’ll need to manually place a higher bid to stay in the running. help.givebutter.com+1
Automated / Max Bidding:
• Enter your maximum bid—the highest amount you're willing to pay. help.givebutter.com+1
• Givebutter’s system will automatically place incremental bids on your behalf (but never exceed your max). help.givebutter.com+1
• If someone places a bid higher than your max, you’ll receive a notification so you can decide to increase. help.givebutter.com+1

4. Monitor Your Bids

Use the My Bids section to see which items you’ve bid on and whether you are currently the highest bidder. help.givebutter.com+1
If someone outbids you, you’ll usually receive a notification (via email or on Givebutter) so you have the chance to bid again. help.givebutter.com+1

5. Winning & Payment

When the auction ends, if you are the highest bidder, you'll win the item. help.givebutter.com+1
Depending on how the auction is configured:
• Auto-Charge On: Your payment method on file will automatically be charged. help.givebutter.com+1
• Auto-Charge Off: You’ll receive an email invoice or payment request. You must complete payment manually. help.givebutter.com+1

6. Fulfillment / Item Delivery

After winning and paying, the organization will handle item fulfillment (shipping, pick-up, etc.). The Givebutter dashboard has a section called Item Fulfillment where organizers track shipping status, addresses, and marking items as fulfilled. help.givebutter.com
The system allows the organizer to mark items as “fulfilled” once delivered or picked up. help.givebutter.com
