In 1903—before women were even recognized as equals—women in the Coulee Region came together to support their most vulnerable neighbors and voted to establish YWCA La Crosse, which became official in 1906. For decades, YWCA La Crosse inspired girls to grow into leaders, advocated for women and underserved populations, and empowered women to work toward self-sufficiency.

Although the ways we live out our mission have shifted over the years, we remain united in vision with our founding members: to create a La Crosse that supports all people. Today, our mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all continues through impactful programs in Childcare, Supportive Housing, Restorative Practices, and Community Education.

This year, we are especially honored to celebrate the women and youth making a difference in the Coulee Region at The Court Above Main—a historic building that once served as YWCA La Crosse’s home in the early 1900s.

The Tribute to Outstanding Women is an unforgettable evening featuring a host of speakers, full dinner with dessert, music and dancing, a cash bar, and—most importantly—the inspiring stories of this year’s honorees. It is both a celebration of our community’s future and a tribute to our roots.
