We’ve been working behind the scenes to make some really important decisions for our special needs kitties and really need your help so that we can continue our mission of no more homeless kitties!

Darling orange floofy Daisy is so happy and full of life, just enjoying being a silly kitten She was turned into the county shelter after being found in a trailer park dumpster in Commerce Twp. Since rescuing her from the county shelter, she has multiple vet visits to try and diagnose why she is not growing properly. At an estimated 8 months old, she weighs barely 2 pounds and bloodwork revealed elevated liver values along with bile acids. She needed a CT scan to properly check for a liver shunt, which was our biggest suspect, and turned out to be negative. Our tiny girl was cleared to be spayed and required special monitoring with anesthesia and at that time we also approved a liver biopsy, so these procedures had to be at Oakland Vet Referral Services. We are awaiting biopsy results from MSU and will update when we find out about that. We have spent almost $9,000 on Daisy's vetting this far.

Cute Miss Coco was found in a Madison Heights neighborhood after it was believed that she hitched a ride on a trailer that had been in storage for the winter. She had a broken leg that was splinted and received laser therapy which helped her completely heal. When Coco went for her spay, the vet detected an even more serious problem during her pre-surgical exam. X-rays revealed a diaphragmatic hernia. While Coco seemed happy and stable, we tried our best to "shop around" for the most economical vet for her surgery, but with the long July 4th weekend, we were struggling to get the call backs we needed. Fast-forward to July 11, Coco's foster noticed that her breathing had suddenly changed and she was not acting herself. We rushed her to BluePearl Pet Hospital in Southfield where it was determined that she needed emergency life-saving surgery. The specialized surgeon was called-in at 11 pm and Coco's surgery was successful thank goodness! Coco is recovering and doing really well so far! She will still need to be spayed as well before being posted for adoption. This huge $7,500 expense was critical to save this sweet little kitten.
