Our Story

Picture the last time something was almost complete. A jigsaw puzzle missing one edge piece. A recipe missing one ingredient. A team missing one person. You know that feeling: everything is right there, and yet something is still not whole.

That's the reality for too many of our neighbors across the Northern Shenandoah Valley. A family one missed paycheck away from losing stable housing. A kid who needs one adult to believe in them. A senior who needs one ride to make it to a doctor's appointment. The picture is almost there. It just needs the missing piece.

That's where you come in.

United Way NSV doesn't run one program that fixes everything. We fund dozens of pieces, housing stability, youth opportunity, financial security, healthy communities, that only work when they fit together. Your gift is what completes the picture. Not a drop in a bucket. The piece the whole thing was waiting for.

In 2026, our theme is Be the Missing Piece, because we believe real, lasting change doesn't come from one hero or one program. It comes from all of us choosing to show up in the space where we're needed. A volunteer on Day of Caring. A donor at $10 a month. A neighbor who checks in. Every piece counts, and every piece is necessary.
