Perched at the quiet end of San Francisco’s iconic crooked Lombard Street, Yick Wo Elementary sits at a crossroads of locals and visitors alike.

Each day, tourists make their way down the hill toward North Beach while our students arrive on foot, greeting neighbors, local shop owners, and familiar faces along the way. From our campus, there are views of Alcatraz across the bay and the rhythms of a tightly knit neighborhood made up of families and small businesses.

Yick Wo Elementary is a small neighborhood school of just 210 students—most of whom live nearby and walk to school. Located in the heart of North Beach, Chinatown, and Russian Hill, we have been a vital part of the community since 1984.

Our school is dedicated to fostering a love for learning by supporting each child’s social, emotional, intellectual, artistic, and physical growth. We nurture good citizenship and empathy while encouraging students to embody the values of safety, kindness, and responsibility—values that extend beyond our campus and into the streets that surround us.

We are committed to nurturing each student’s potential through enriching programs that go beyond the standard curriculum. Art, outdoor education, and classroom enhancements—funded entirely by the PTO—give our students opportunities to explore, create, and grow into well-rounded, lifelong learners.

Yick Wo’s programs and achievements, including earning the National Blue Ribbon Award, are a testament to our commitment to academic excellence and closing achievement gaps. However, these programs are not funded by SFUSD. To continue offering the experiences that make Yick Wo such a special place to learn, we must raise $185,000 for the 2025–2026 school year. Your support helps ensure that this small neighborhood school can continue to thrive—right at the end of one of San Francisco’s most famous streets.
