We currently have a Type 2 avalanche center, and our small Forest Service team works hard to cover a huge amount of terrain and provide the information our community depends on. But the need for reliable, consistent forecasting has grown far beyond what our current team can sustain. To serve our backcountry community the way it deserves, we’re working to become a Type 1 center—and that means growing our staff and expanding our capabilities.

Reaching Type 1 status will allow us to offer 7-day forecasting, bring on more forecasters to cover more of the winter season, and provide more courses to help people make better decisions in the mountains. It also means giving our team the basic tools they need—reliable snowmobiles to get them into the field safely and consistently.
