Story

Welcome to the Students In Training Kick Off Campaign!

Before we dive into what exactly our mission and purpose is, here is what Robert Howell, SiT Director in Granite Quarry, has this to say about the program:

"I got my start in the IT field as a student in the Students In Training program back in 2006. I contribute my success in the field to the program. I had the opportunity as a teenager to lead a computer repair team, build websites, make service calls, and work on servers. Without this program I wouldn't have had a headstart on my career. I started my company Baxter Consultants with the dream of creating a similar after school program. That dream is now coming to fruition as we relaunch the 501C3 Students In Training charity.

I am happy to announce that I've reconnected with the founder of SIT Dr. Charles Patton. I will be leading the program as the executive director in Granite Quarry. Please consider following our Facebook page to help us get the word out. We will be releasing information on our after school program in the coming weeks. If you know of a middle or high school age student that has a passion for technology please reach out to us. Space is going to be limited for our after school program. We are looking for curious students who want to learn about various technology disciplines from industry professionals.

Thank you Charles and Sharon Patton for your support.
Thank you Elizabeth for your support of long hours while preparing.
And thank you Terri and Gaby for the groundwork laid."

These words give you just a glimpse of the impact this kind of program has on our students. Everyone deserves the chance to have a career that makes them happy. Programs like SiT do a fantastic job helping curious minds learn new skills and guide them towards so many different paths. Every donation made is going to make a huge difference in a learner's life. I think our vision statement really encompasses what we are most passionate about.

Vision Statement: "Make technology simple for everybody by providing structured opportunities and challenges that foster creativity and critical thinking. We are resonating positive values for learners by providing ongoing mentorship."

Now, let's go over some of our basics. We will be starting in Fall of 2023 with an after school program. The program will run from 2:30pm-6:30pm each weekday. During this time students will receive help with homework, a small meal, and then the opportunity to dive into different aspects of the technology field. We have a variety of topics and classes planned out to help learners explore the possibilities of this industry. From coding and social media to robotics and computer repair, our students are going to really have amazing opportunities.

While we wait for grants and funding opportunities to come in, we do have to consider the cost each student will have to Students in Training. Right now it costs $100 a week for each student to be with us. This may seem like a small amount to some families, yet an impossible amount to others. Because of this, we will say that no student will ever be turned away from our program because they can't afford it. We also offer an option to pay for the month in advance at a discount. Pre-paying helps eliminate the risk of forgetting payment, but it also saves each family $40 a month by only charging $360 instead of $400.

Curious what the money is paying for? Every penny donated is going directly to the SiT program. This covers the cost of paying staff, running background checks, electric bills for our building, insurance, meals for the students, training mentors and staff, supplies for the students and tools needed for them to learn.

We are so excited to see Students in Training take off again. However, we really can't do this without the support of our community. If you have any questions, please reach out!

We are so grateful to each and every one of our supporters.
