ABC Silent Auction

Featuring artwork from Alaskan artists, donations from ABC partners, and individual supporters from Alaska's bird community.

Proceeds from our silent auction support student attendance and outreach events like the Art and Conservation Night.

The more we raise, the more student travel scholarships we can award!

This year's silent auction is going virtual!

Physical items will be displayed throughout the conference at Hotel Captain Cook, at the Art and Conservation night, and will be accompanied by QR codes for easy bidding. Open to the public.

We chose this theme to highlight the peril our migratory bird species face as they travel to and from summer breeding grounds in the north, wintering grounds in the south, and numerous stopovers in between. Every year, this cycle exposes migratory and even resident birds to a variety of hazards that have led to a large-scale decline of nearly 3 billion birds between 1970 and 2017 (Rosenberg et al. 2019, "Decline of North American Avifauna").

"Cumulative loss of nearly three billion birds since 1970, across most 35 North American biomes, signals a pervasive and ongoing avifaunal crisis."

The results of Rosenberg et al. 2019 have pulled the bird conservation community together around a single call to action: #BringBirdsBack!

About ABC

Every two years, the Alaska Bird Conference gathers governmental, scientific, academic, and professional communities to:

exchange information about our environment and Alaska's birds,
recognize outstanding conservation work,
support student advancement in ornithology,
and sponsor community education.

The first Alaska Bird Conference grew from the often expressed need for exchange of information among those who work with and care for Alaska’s diverse and abundant birds. By design, the Alaska Bird Conference is friendly and committed to welcoming new students and ornithologists into the flock.

The first conference took place in 1985 in Anchorage and commenced on a tour of Alaska ever since. Unincorporated, the conference is organized and hosted by a unique constellation of partners each time. 2023 marks the 20th Alaska Bird Conference and a return to Anchorage!
