Bianca and Packie Turner launched Unlimited Potential Basketball Youth Charitable Foundation in the fall of 2020 to address persistent opportunity gaps facing youth in sports. The main goal of the organization is to ensure young girls and underprivileged children are given a safe space to learn and grow through sports. Behind the creation of UPBYCF lies years of activism for both Turners and sustained interest in bettering communities in The Bay Area. Yearly clinics at UPB have focused on women’s empowerment and tackled issues like access to sports and hunger. UPBYCF focuses on building safe and supportive environments where young children can learn the value of hard work, positive leadership, getting outside their comfort zone, and confidence.
“Back to School Buckets” is an event organized by a group of high school students who wanted to combine their love of basketball with a commitment to making a difference in their local community. Familiar with Bianca and Packie Turner's work with underserved youth in sports, these four friends proposed organizing a fundraising event to support UPBYCF. Soon after, the idea for a charity basketball event began to take shape. “Back to School Buckets” will happen on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at the UPB training facility in Burlingame, California.
