The Big Island Press Club (BIPC) is Hawai‘i Island’s oldest running media and journalism organization, serving as an independent watchdog for open government and media transparency since 1967.

Our Mission: The BIPC defends the public’s right to know, uplifts ethical journalism, and cultivates the next generation of journalists.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, we champion a free press and an informed citizenry through two key efforts:

Advocacy & Transparency: We serve as a vital watchdog, defending the public's right to access information. We honor integrity through the annual Torch of Light Award and call out its absence with the Lava Tube Dishonor Award.
Cultivating the Future: We invest in Hawai‘i’s future media professionals by providing annual scholarships to college students pursuing careers in journalism or related fields.

Your donation ensures we can continue to fight for government openness and empower the next generation of reporters on Hawai‘i Island. Mahalo for your support!
