The Spokane Fatherhood Initiative has been quietly transforming lives since 2018, and the results speak volumes. With 810 certificates of completion from our evidence-based programs, we’ve documented improvement in participants’ fathering skills, communication abilities, and relationship health. Many fathers advance through multiple program levels, showing deep commitment to personal growth.

As we continue this work in Spokane County, we’re also building North Idaho partnerships—with churches, community groups, and businesses in places like Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, and Rathdrum—so dads on both sides of the state line have access to proven, relationship-centered fatherhood classes. Fatherlessness knows no borders—and neither should solutions.

Why our region needs this investment

Our community faces significant challenges. Spokane County experiences child abuse and neglect rates 53% higher than Washington State averages. Domestic violence incidents occur at alarming rates. Nearly one in four children grow up without consistent father involvement. Across the border in North Idaho, communities report similar pressures—underscoring the need for a coordinated Spokane–North Idaho response.

Yet we’ve witnessed remarkable transformation. Father-and-child reunifications happen dozens of times through our programs, often after years of separation. We’ve seen men transition from anger and disconnection to becoming present, nurturing fathers their children need.

Today, SpoFI continues that legacy—and is working with North Idaho partners to ensure every father has access to tools, training, and encouragement needed to succeed.
