The Colored Musicians Club is one of the only remaining African American clubs of its kind in the United States. Musicians’ Local 533 was founded in 1917 and shortly thereafter the union formed a social club, which was chartered in 1935.

Designated as a historical preservation site in 1999, the CMC recently began an expansion and renovation that will allow for increased tourism and visitation to Buffalo’s African American Heritage Corridor.

While closed for construction, the Club is still promoting historical research and the preservation of jazz in Buffalo through its museum, designed by Hadley Exhibits in 2018.

The Colored Musicians Club is fundraising to update the museum and increase its programming while the Club is under construction and renovation. Tours of the Museum are available Thursday through Saturday from 11 to 4 PM. We appreciate any and all monetary donations to help us reach our 2022 fundraising goals for renovation projects and forthcoming programming costs.
