The practice of yoga provides an opportunity for rest, refuge, and self-inquiry.

In a society which demands continuous output, productivity, and consumption, these acts of rest and reflection are radical in and of themselves.

Importantly, these practices also prepare the practitioner to engage in social justice work in a way which is clear, aware, and sustainable.

As Audre Lorde wrote:

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”

At the Santa Fe Community Yoga Center, we've offered the practice of yoga as refuge for nearly 30 years. We work consciously to ensure our programming is safe, welcoming, and accessible for students of every race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy status, sexual orientation, class, size, age, disability, and history of conviction or incarceration.

Our goal is to continue expanding our reach to make safe, inclusive yoga practice available to as many folks as possible.

In doing so, we hope to create a world which is more equitable and just by:

1) providing wellness instruction and the opportunity for deep rest and refuge to those who have historically been unable to access such opportunities;

and

2) preparing practitioners to engage in social justice initiatives in a way which is clear, aware, and sustainable.

We work towards these goals by offering dozens of affordable, inclusive yoga classes every week (both in our Santa Fe yoga studio and online), by bringing specialty programs -- such as Yoga in Schools -- to underserved folks in our community, and by providing a safe space for veterans and folks experiencing trauma to receive yoga instruction.

Because we are a nonprofit, we rely on the support of our community to carry out our work.

This is particularly true for our organization now, as the COVID-19 pandemic has caused us financial hardship.

We are dedicated to continuing to carry out our important work, and we'd love it if you'd be our collaborator and co-conspirator as we work to build a more just and equitable world through yoga practice.

Any amount donated makes a tremendous difference, and helps make it possible for us to carry our work into another year.
