NBLA was formed in 2015 by a group of Sonoma County artists who found beauty and collective inspiration in putting words on paper -- letter by letter, page by page. Eight years later, we’re building from that original inspiration by growing a unique organization serving the region with classes, events, and a vibrant community of letterpress students, printers and book artists. We believe words matter, and language should be creatively wielded as an artform.

As we increase our programs and impact, our funding needs are growing too. Our operating budget has increased by more than fifty percent over last year. This fall, we’re launching our first annual fundraising campaign to help close the gap as we seek to grow NBLA’s financial capacity and support network.

NBLA is a special place. It’s one of only a few nonprofits in California supporting letterpress and book arts, and the only one serving artists, writers, and students north of San Francisco. As we look toward the next three years, our goals are to expand access and membership, acquire the letterpress equipment on loan from our founder, and offer an ever broader array of classes and events in bookmaking, design, print history, and literary arts.
